Lark, 19, has gained a casual job as a support worker for Unique Kidz and Co in Morecambe after learning with PHX Training.
Lark first came to PHX in August 2024 on the Restart programme, which focuses on creating tailored learning plans for those preparing to re-enter the workforce.
During this time, Lark’s tutor Alicia signposted them towards the Money Management course. The Money Management course helped Lark gain the core maths skills needed for everyday functional activities including calculating income, budgeting their money, calculating bills and food shopping.
Keen to further their learning journey, Lark then completed a BTEC Award in Principles of Customer Service, Level 1.
During the course, Lark learned the skills and knowledge required to excel in customer facing roles. This covered key topics including how to handle customer problems, turning bad situations into positive ones, how to create a positive customer experience and building long-lasting customer relationships.
Alicia, Lark’s tutor, said: “At PHX we are fortunate to be able to tailor our learning environments for each individual. We worked hard to ensure we facilitated Lark and their needs by incorporating fidget toys – Ollie the dinosaur in particular – throughout the learning journey.
“In fact Ollie seemed to boost morale and was well received amongst the whole group of learners, which was really great to see.
“Successfully completing their courses, Lark has gone on to achieve exactly what they came in here to do, and has now not only gained employment, but the qualifications and skills necessary to thrive in the retail environment and beyond.”
