PHX celebrated the success of six learners who were nominated at the 2025 Skills for Life Multiply Awards for their hard work and outstanding progress on the Multiply Programme.
The awards, held in Penrith, were part of a celebration marking the conclusion of the programme in Cumbria.
The three-year, £2.3 million initiative, funded by the UK Government, aimed to boost numeracy skills in adults over the age of 19 and enhance their employment prospects.
PHX Training was one of the delivery partners for the programme, which was made available to learners through our centres in Barrow, Carlise and Workington.
Learner Nikki Flannery was nominated for the Learner Who Has Progressed award. After being initially hesitant to reach out for support, Nikki became increasingly confident and progressed to gain her Level 2 qualification in Maths.
She has now been offered a place at The University of Cumbria for an undergraduate degree in Nursing.
Monika Mandal was also nominated. She participated in one-to-one sessions with the aim of gaining a qualification and returning to work. As English wasn’t her first language, her confidence was initially low, but she successfully passed her exam and earned a Level 2 qualification.
Rose Bradley was nominated for the Learner Who Gained Employment Award. After joining PHX for support in achieving her Functional Maths skill to improve her employability and career prospects, she gained her Level 2 Maths qualification and secured an apprenticeship with BAE Systems.
Pauline Urmston was also nominated. With one-on-one support through PHX, she developed her maths skills and went on to earn three vocational qualifications.
Stephen Cottier was nominated for the Learner Who Has Gained the Most Confidence award. Stephen was looking to boost his confidence in his maths skills to help him in his search for employment and to improve his confidence in job interviews.
Following a mix of one-to-one and group sessions with PHX, Stephen gained a better understanding of basic maths skills as well as valuable interpersonal skills and a greater sense of self-confidence.
Abigail Ross was also nominated and secured a job in a coffee shop. The workshops helped her pursue vocational learning and apply for local roles.
