In April 2025, Martyn’s Law, officially the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act, received Royal Assent, marking a pivotal moment in UK public safety policy.
The law represents a major step forward in ensuring public venues are prepared to respond to terrorist threats and signals a significant demand for trained security professionals and a real opportunity for individuals seeking to enter or advance in the sector at the same time.
At PHX, we’re ready to help you take that step with our accredited course designed to accelerate your security career.
What’s changing with Martyn’s Law?
Martyn’s Law introduces a tiered system for public venues and events, based on capacity. Locations with more than 200 visitors will now be legally required to implement clear security protocols, including staff training, evacuation plans, and risk assessments.
Larger venues must go even further by employing more robust security planning with mandated formal training, bringing new responsibilities and job opportunities to frontline staff across the country.
Security sector demand is set to surge
With the rollout of Martyn’s Law scheduled to become fully enforceable by 2026, the need for qualified, accredited security staff is growing rapidly.
Retailers, event organisers, entertainment venues and public sector buildings are all ramping up their hiring efforts, not just for traditional security guard roles, but for trained professionals with the skills to manage risk, coordinate evacuations, and liaise with emergency services.
If you’ve been thinking about making a move into security, or upskilling to take on more responsibility, there’s never been a better time.
